Car Insurance

While there are many endorsements and additional coverages you can add to an auto insurance policy to protect your vehicle, there are 2 main coverages on auto insurance – liability and full coverage (comprehensive and collision).

Liability coverage protects you in the event you injure a person (or persons) or cause property damage while driving your car. This is the most important aspect of your auto policy because it helps protect you and your assets. Imagine you rear-end a vehicle and injure the other driver, and as a result they not only have to seek medical treatment, but they lose income because they’re not able to work, or worse yet they become disabled. Let’s say the damage you caused to their vehicle warrants it being a totaled out. Wouldn’t you want to make sure you have the protection you need to avoid having to pay out of your own pocket to the other person? This is where the correct liability coverage can alleviate any concern you may have.

Comprehensive coverage protects your vehicle from damages that are out of your control – fire, theft, vandalism, weather-related damage such as hail, etc. It also covers damage for any and all glass damage. Some states have a separate glass coverage on their auto policy, but in NC glass damage falls under comprehensive. Collision coverage protects your vehicle from damages that are due to something you did behind the wheel – hit a mailbox, back into a wall in a parking deck, sliding into a guardrail on an icy road, etc. Each of these coverages have deductibles, or the amount of money you have to pay before the insurer pays. Making sure you have the correct deductible and that it fits your financial situation is vital to assure an inconvenient situations goes as smooth as possible.

I called MSIA for a quote on my auto and homeowners insurance. 30 minutes later I received a call from one of the agents. Not only did she inform me of the holes I had in my current coverage, but she made suggestions to me on how I could be better insured. I now have better policies and saved over $500 per year on my auto/homeowners.
